Portugal was the first country to publish a dataset on the HealthData@EU Central Platform.

Within the scope of the HealthData@PT initiative, SPMS successfully completed the connectivity and compliance tests required for linking to the HealthData@EU Central Platform. Portugal was the first European Union (EU) country to gain access to the acceptance environment of the HealthData@EU Central Services and to publish a dataset in its catalogue.

The HealthData@EU Central Platform is the EU’s platform for discovery and requests of access to electronic health data for research, innovation and regulatory purposes (secondary use). Developed by the European Commission, this platform will display the health datasets available across all EU Member States and authorised participants, and will act as a mediator for cross-border data access requests.

The conclusion of this stage marks a significant step forward in the secondary use of data and reinforces Portugal’s pioneering role in the implementation of the European Health Data Space. This is the result of the technical implementation of the HealthData@PT project, carried out by the NSDGRI (Global Digital Health and International Affairs Team), DANAD-UPACE (Planning, Architecture, Compliance and Engineering Unit), DIRS-UCD (Data Centres Unit), DIRS-OS (Operation and Security Unit) in developing the components required to connect the national infrastructure to the HealthData@EU Central Platform, as well as by DANAD-UIA (Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Unit) in developing datasets in compliance with European-label metadata standard.
