EU Innovation Radar recognizes international work developed by SPMS

SPMS is responsible for the MyHealth@EU services in Portugal, participating in several initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of these services. One of these initiatives, the UNICOM action, allowed for the evaluation of the impact of implementing the international ISO IDMP (Identification of Medicinal Products) standards in the standardization of information relating to pharmaceutical products. This standardization helps to optimize the communication of information between Member States through the European infrastructure MyHealth@EU, which enables the secure exchange of the Patient Summary, as well as electronic Prescriptions and Dispensations of medicines and medical devices between different Member States of the European Union (EU).

In this context, the Innovation Radar, an European Commission initiative that aims to identify, monitor and promote EU-funded innovations with the potential to transform markets, improve society and generate economic growth, recognized one of the works developed by SPMS in the UNICOM action. This work was fundamental for the implementation of ISO IDMP standards in MyHealth@EU.

This innovation paved the way for a significant improvement in digital health services across EU countries by implementing ISO IDMP standards. With this innovation, EU countries can gradually start using these standards to structure data related to pharmaceutical products, with the aim of improving existing MyHealth@EU services, making them more efficient and interoperable, while also ensuring the clear and error-free identification of pharmaceutical products in the EU.

SPMS’s commitment to these European actions highlights its role in shaping the future of healthcare in Europe, not only by improving citizen safety but also by contributing to improving the services provided to citizens within the European Union.
